Signs of local progress inspire idea for best caption

“Shop locally” has been the mantra at Positively Naperville since its first issue in 2001. And whenever possible, our aim has been to enlighten local residents about the good things that happen when independent businesses are a shopper’s destination.

In the often repeated words of Dan Casey, owner of Casey’s Foods, “When you support local businesses, you’ll always live in a nice community.”

During travels around town in recent days to enjoy the colorful advent of autumn, we noted progress in the air and upgrades throughout some of our favorite local establishments.

From the Water Street District project along the Riverwalk to Naperville Plaza, for example, we found plenty of reasons to look up when so much of the news can get you down.

Quigley’s Irish Pub / Downtown Naperville

Then when we stopped at Quigley’s Irish Pub for a cold beverage, everyone inside was talking about the new comfy bar stools emblazoned with “Guinness.” We found ourselves amused when we heard someone say, “Bottoms up!” and everybody just stayed seated.

Then the silly captions started flowing as folks observed the bar sitters from behind.

And that gave us an idea to help promote local businesses with a little good humor.

Write a caption / Win a prize

Provide a caption for the photo below. The individual who writes the best caption in our opinion will receive a whole bunch of applause and credit in our next issue. (Plus, we’ll send some surprises to the writer(s) we select—real prizes that come from local independent businesses—with a Naperville address.)

Please know that unlike some online surveys that currently are collecting data and then trying to charge you for mailing and handling in order to send your prize (Beware of that scam from a cable provider!), you’ll likely enjoy eating your heart out with PN’s surprise, free of charge.

Simply send the caption via e-mail to stephanie@positivelynaperville.com by October 5, 2015, with your name and address. Write “Caption for Quigley’s” in the subject line.

Cheers!

One more thing!

Sunday morning we enjoyed opening an e-mail from a 1960 graduate of Naperville Community High School who is in town this weekend for the 55th Class Reunion and the NCHS Homecoming.  Class of ’60 NCHS Reunion organizer Roberta Priz must have given him the t-shirt, compliments of Positively Naperville.
