I-88 and Rt. 59 Interchange Set to Close Friday

-

Nine day closure by IDOT last phase of Rt. 59 Expansion Project

As one of the final steps in the Illinois Route 59 Expansion Project, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and its contractors will close the Interstate 88 ramps at the IL Route 59 interchange beginning at approximately 8PM this Friday, September 11 until approximately 5AM Monday, September 21.

IDOT has announced the following detours:

  • On Friday, September 11, at 8PM, the westbound tollway ramp to IL Route 59 will be closed. Westbound traffic will be detoured to the Winfield Road interchange to access IL Route 59 via Butterfield Road (IL 56).
  • The eastbound tollway ramp to IL Route 59 will close at the same time. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to the Eola Road interchange to access IL Route 59 via Butterfield Road.
  • Northbound IL Route 59 entrance ramp to the westbound tollway will be closed. Northbound IL Route 59 traffic will be detoured to Butterfield Road, Eola Road and Bilter Road to access the westbound tollway ramp at the Eola Road interchange.
  • Southbound IL Route 59 to the eastbound tollway entrance ramp will be closed. Southbound IL Route 59 traffic will be detoured to Butterfield Road and Winfield Road to access the eastbound tollway ramp at the Winfield Road interchange.

This closure will facilitate the full reconstruction of the interchange into a new Diverging Diamond Interchange, or DDI, which improves traffic flow and safety by eliminating left turns in front of oncoming traffic. The DDI will be the first of its kind in the Chicago area. Information regarding the DDI, including a video simulation, is available on the City of Naperville website at www.naperville.il.us/route59expansion.aspx.
