Update Aug. 22, 2015 / This afternoon 31 talented performances auditioned to take part in the annual Singing at the Fling Competition on Labor Day Weekend. Solo singers and duos were judged by members of the Naperville Jaycees for a chance to perform live on the Entertainment Stage during the Last Fling at 12PM on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Competition was stiff, the judges agreed, while they had the task to winnow down the talent to fit 16 available spots.

During auditions, the contestants were judged to fit into three categories: ages 12 & under, ages 13-14 and ages 15 & up.

According to Singing at the Fling Co-Chair Danielle Tufano, the judges’ selection included both solo singers and duos to advance to the final competition.  All finalists will be notified by the end of the day on Thurs., Aug. 27.

Noting that this year’s auditions attracted more singers and more exceptional talent than ever, Jodi Bernicky added that singers had come to audition not only from Naperville, but also Addison, Glen Ellyn, Hinsdale, Homer Glen, West Chicago and Yorkville.

To be considered and eligible for the finals, all selected contestants must be available for the competition at noon Sun., Sept. 6, as well the awards presentation at noon Mon., Sept. 7.  Any individual performer under 18 must have a consent form signed by parent or legal guardian.

“We are excited to see local talent of all ages come out to shine,” Danielle Tufano, Singing at the Fling Co-Chair and Morning Co-Host of Mackay in the Morning on 95.9 The River, said. “This is one of the few singing competitions that encourages both adults and children to participate.”

Singing at the Fling Finals will be held at the HomeBridge Financial/Dolly McCarthy Entertainment Stage at the Last Fling at 12PM on Sunday, Sept. 6, and the first place winners in each age group will sing on the Main Stage on Monday, Sept. 7 (time TBD).

Singers may prepare one song of up to three minutes in length (no exceptions), and they must provide their own instrumental accompaniment or audio backing track.

Both solo singers and duos/groups are welcome to audition. A panel of judges will decide on one solo singer winner per age category; age categories are to be determined after auditions. There will be one separate category for duos/groups. Please note that for timing purposes, only portable, handheld instruments will be allowed (ie, no drum sets or pianos/keyboards).

Prize and sponsorship opportunities for Singing at the Fling are still available. For more information, email singatfling@gmail.com.
