July Editor’s Notes

-

While the soaking spring rains seemed as though they’d never end, we anticipated the longest day of the year would be followed by sunny summer days to experience the great outdoors where local special events shine.

We remain optimistic as we gear up for what is traditionally the hottest month of the year. And we’re revved up to ramble…

Almost on autopilot, we’re easing into familiar summertime activities … Where’s Waldo?, Ribfest, 4th of July Parades and fireworks drive our attention to celebrate the freedoms we cherish in this great nation. Cheers to a safe, peaceful and happy Independence Day!

Photogenic Downtown Naperville!

Moving right along, be sure to bring a camera when you come downtown. Capture images of the miniature car sculptures that will line the sidewalks all summer. Designed with whimsical themes by local artists, the colorful painted cars are just the right size for kids to test drive for fun and photos. Find all 15 and vote for your favorite at www.downtownnaperville.com.

In addition, last month the finishing touches were painted on “Naperville Loves a Parade,” a Century Walk mural along Rubins Way across the street from Heaven on Seven on Main Street. Downtown visitors can step into the scene of spectators for fun photos there, too.

Summer Sidewalk Sales

Downtown shops and some restaurants will set up outside during the annual Summer Sizzlin’ Sidewalk Sales, July 9-11. Visitors will find discounts and deals both outside and inside at participating merchants as well as under the big tent at Dean’s Fine Clothing.

A quick ride south along Washington St. to Gartner will lead to more deals at Naperville Plaza throughout July.

Oswald’s Pharmacy—known for great sidewalk bargains in just about any season—will host a “special center aisle sale” inside this year while its expands to the new space next door. Be sure to watch for the big “grand opening” news as Oswald’s continues to celebrate its 140th anniversary year.

PN is growing, too!

In July 2001, PN secured its place on the Internet at www.positivelynaperville.com. Ever since, the website and the monthly print edition of our independently-owned community news source have aimed to educate and engage readers in this remarkable city that continually celebrates its traditions and historic risk takers as it welcomes new residents and ideas.

In our brief format, we enjoy bringing you good news and a preview of upcoming events. We also appreciate that even when folks have challenges and unmet needs, they trust us to help tell their stories.

We welcome feedback right here. We want to hear from you! Take note of page 40.

While we’re celebrating the beginning of our 15th year, be mindful that soon you’ll be seeing some changes, featuring a bunch of new initiatives both online and in print.

Mostly, we hope you’ll find opportunities to join us as we try to keep our motor running on the sunny side of the street.

Happy summer!
