Brad and Angelina may be the power couple in Hollywood… Rick and Susan Love are the power couple at Kidz Kabaret!
They began with Kidz Kabaret children’s theater in Naperville 12 years ago when they brought their son Josh, age 5, to see a production. They approached the founder, Kandiss Hernandez, to get their son involved. Kandiss assured them with a no audition policy, it was as easy as registering for a show. They did and now 12 years later, they are still a part of the organization.
“Little did either of us know it would become a lifelong adventure,” Kandiss said.
Susan began volunteering by lending a hand with costuming. That task was manageable, because Kidz Kabaret was small in comparison to its now 20-plus different casts per show. Rick volunteered evenings and weekends building sets and doing any other chore needed.
At Center Stage Theater, Susan leads costuming; handling all shows, managing costume volunteers, running box office for 200-plus shows a year. At the same time, Rick videotapes productions and sells concessions.
They volunteer because they saw what Kidz Kabaret did for Josh, now a senior at Naperville North High School.
As a result, he is involved in theater and nationally recognized in show choir at Naperville North.
“Rick and Susan also volunteer because they care for every student here as if they were their own,” added Kandiss. “They give countless hours to Kidz Kabaret. It would not be the same organization without them. I am so grateful they came to see a show 12 years ago. And they never left!”
