Mayor Chirico Set to Appoint New Liquor Commissioners

Mayor Steve Chirico will swear in four Liquor Commissioners at the Thursday, June 4 Liquor Commission meeting. Dr. James Ostrenga and Scott Wehrli will return to the Liquor Commission, while Mayor Chirico will appoint two new Commissioners, U-Jung Choe and Marc Blackman. Liquor Commissioners serve on a volunteer basis for four-year terms.

Thursday’s meeting will be held at 3PM in Council Chambers at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle Street.

“The priority of Naperville’s Liquor Commission is public safety and establishing and enforcing rules for our businesses to ensure proper behavior from patrons at their establishments,” said Mayor Steve Chirico. “I am confident our Liquor Commissioners will use their knowledge to be fair and reasonable and create clear expectations for our business community as well as bring consistency to the process.”

The Illinois Municipal Code states that the mayor shall be the local Liquor Control Commissioner and may appoint a person or persons to assist in the exercise of the powers and the performance of the duties of the Liquor Control Act. Dr. James Ostrenga most recently served as the hearing officer for the Liquor Commission. Scott Wehrli has served on the Commission since 1994.

U-Jung Choe served as the Executive Secretary and Hearing Judge for the State of Indiana’s Alcohol and Tobacco Commission and has been a resident of Naperville for close to two years. Marc Blackman worked for a winery for 10 years and has extensive business and leadership experience. Blackman has resided in Naperville for 22 years.

Councilman Kevin Gallaher – Downtown Advisory Commission and Sister Cities Commission

Councilwoman Patty Gustin – Downtown Advisory Commission

Councilman Paul Hinterlong – Naperville Settlement Museum Board and Advisory Commission on Disabilities

Councilman John Krummen – Financial Advisory Board and Public Utilities Advisory Board
