Pulse of Naperville Music Scene – Have You Seen The Purple Dog?

-

Dr-Music-WebIt’s at this point in the year when I sum up my favorite music of 2014 on the Dr. Music website. It’s always a daunting task to pick a Top Ten list in today’s world because of all the great music that’s so readily available to us through so many outlets.

I often hear folks say that there’s no good new music, and it always prompts a giggle from me. I never have enough time in my day to listen to the enormous wealth of music that I find. Subscription music services like Spotify and Pandora have opened my ears to literally thousands of new artists and albums.

Some of my favorite selections of the last year came from rock legends like Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) and Wishbone Ash, and from new artists like The Pretty Reckless, Black Stone Cherry, and Black Veil Brides.

I make it a point to keep up with the current scene, but I realize that not everyone has time to spend looking for new music.

I would recommend a system like Pandora to those that want new music but don’t want to put in the time to find it. Start listening to an artist you like and Pandora will start playing other music that has a similar sound. If you hear something you like, jot it down and go to your sensational Naperville Public Library. The odds are good that they will have something on file.

Optimizing your digital age options and making use of our wonderful library system in 2015 will, without a doubt, put a smile on your ears.
