November is a time to be thankful for blessings of family, home and health. Days are getting shorter and colder, which means the holiday season is upon us.
Most of us are fortunate to be able to provide a savory Thanksgiving dinner for our families or to be invited to celebrate with relatives and friends. Your neighborhood Naperville YMCAs will be collecting nonperishable food items and gift cards to help less fortunate families provide a traditional Thanksgiving meal for their children.
This year, we will be helping 150 families from Safe & Sound, Y-Sports Complex, Kroehler and Fry YMCAs. If you are interested in helping, drop-off boxes will be available at your Naperville Ys from Oct. 27 through Nov. 20. Gift cards are needed to purchase turkeys, pies and other fresh items.
Other items that will be accepted include: stuffing mix; canned vegetables and sweet potatoes; dessert mixes; condiments, pickles, olives, etc.; Instant mashed potatoes; gravy mix; and packages of Jell-O mix.
