‘Find Haldie’ always will be a challenge in downtown Naperville mural

-

UPDATE Dec. 10, 2014 / Much to the surprise of Positively Naperville editors, Kenneth Dorsch had clipped out and saved the “Find Haldie!” centerfold of the November issue of Positively Naperville that featured a photo of “Naperville Loves a Parade,” a Century Walk mural along Rubins Way. During a visit to wish the 99-years-and-364 days-old WWII veteran a happy 100th birthday, Dorsch noted with considerable pride that his portraiture had been painted there near the image of Mayor George Pradel and other veterans pictured at the Judd Kendall VFW.

UPDATE Dec. 8, 2014 / In case you missed the announcement on Nov. 30, 2014, during the Little Friends Parade of Lights, Lynda Reilly was named the winner of the Find Haldie! contest.  When the weather returns suitable for painting next spring, her image will fill the empty white space on the Century Walk mural, “Naperville Loves a Parade.”

UPDATE Nov. 10 / In response to the possibility of failing to have an official entry form, Century Walk President Brand Bobosky said today that as long as “Find Haldie!” players include “name, address, phone and e-mail” with their answer on a sheet of paper, it’s OK to turn the count into Dean’s Fine Clothing during regular business hours. In the event that more than one entry has the correct answer, those entries will be placed in a box and one will be selected as the winner. If no one has the correct answer by Nov. 24, the “Find Haldie!” game will continue until somebody gets it right!

Familiar faces from downtown Naperville encourage readers to check out the centerfold in the Nov. issue of PN to find the rules to play “Find Haldie!”

Earlier Post / ‘Find Haldie’ Contest is off and running in downtown Naperville / When the November issue of PN hit the streets, the centerfold included the official entry form for “Find Haldie!”, a new contest in downtown Naperville where everyone can participate for free from now through Nov. 24, 2014.

Visit the Century Walk mural “Naperville Loves a Parade” to find approximately 337 spectators, 80 businesses and signs, 17 dogs, two cats, one mouse, four birds, nine blankets, 54 balloons, 12 vehicles and 15 airborne images with some duplicity such as the Flying Nun, depicting the image of Sister Jeanne Haley of St. Patrick’s Residence.

Find Haldie! Look for this image, large and small, hidden prominently and not so prominently throughout “Naperville Loves a Parade.” Enjoy the challenge!

As you view the inspiring local landscape of this active community in a mural that faces “The Parade of the Century” mural across Rubins Way, you’ll note that the one number that’s missing is the count for dozens of images of Greg Haldeman, the mustachioed man pictured above in his blue hat with shades. For the sake of this contest, Haldeman is known as “Haldie.”

Play ‘Find Haldie!’

Visitors to the Century Walk mural are welcomed to find dozens of “Haldie” images in all sizes for a chance to win a customized life-like portraiture and to be part of the colorful scene. It’s pretty easy. Simply count the Haldie images. And you could be placed right up front in the empty spot that’s waiting for one more spectator.

Contest organizer Brand Bobosky wants you to know that Haldie is hidden in the mural more than 10 and less than 50 times.

The value of the portraiture is $1,000 per Century Walk pricing. Yet, in reality some artists might say “your claim to fame is priceless since it will last more than 15 minutes.”

After a stroll along the mural along the north wall of the GAP building on Main Street, carefully count (and recount, just to be sure) Haldie, then fill out the official entry form in the November issue of Positively Naperville and turn it into Dean’s Fine Clothing at 226 S. Main St. during regular business hours. A special “Find Haldie” box is ready to accept all entries until the close of the business day at 6PM on Mon., Nov. 24.

No extra credit will be given for finding Al DeGeeter featured as a Jaycees Last Fling Labor Day Parade bucket shaker on the wall! Still, when you find DeGeeter at Dean’s, he’ll accept your official entry form to “Find Haldie.”

Winner named during Little Friends Parade of Lights

The winner will be announced during the Little Friends Parade of Lights that begins at 5PM on Sun., Nov. 30, in downtown Naperville. In case of a tie, a drawing will be held at the parade, including all names of individuals that had the same correct number.  Three runners-up also will have their names prominently placed for posterity as fellow “Finders of Haldie.”

For complete details, see the centerfold in the November print issue of PN.  Find complimentary copies of PN at Quigley’s Irish Pub, Anderson’s Bookshop, Naperville General Store, Casey’s Foods, Colbert Custom Framing, Oswald’s Pharmacy, Minuteman Press, Kroehler Y, 95th Street Y, Judd Kendall VFW and about 25 other locations around town.

Follow updates on this website. Use the “Search for Something” tool on the navigation bar to “Find Haldie.”

The two murals facing each other along Rubins Way were painted by Diosdodo Mondero (lead artist), Marianne Lisson Kuhn, Adela Vystenova (The Parade of the Century), Samantha DeCarlo and Ashley Samack (apprentice).
