Get fit the old fashioned way during the Wednesday Walking Club held from 8-9AM on Wednesdays, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. When it comes to outdoor activity, there is no better way than an active stroll around the beautiful 12-acre museum campus. Check in at the Pre-Emption House Visitor Center, then log your minutes (not miles). Earn reward tickets to Naper Settlement programs and events.

Flashback Fridays – Meet a Curator

Join Naper Settlement’s curatorial staff to explore a specific aspect of the museum’s collection from 1 to 2PM Fri., Oct. 3, offsite at the Collections Care and Storage Facility, 180 Fort Hill Dr. Enter at Door C. Hear about their work and see real artifacts from the museum’s collection of over 50,000 objects and learn about the stories behind these objects. October’s topic is the Naperville Fire Department Collection. For ages teen to adult. Tickets are $10.

Oktoberfest

Enjoy traditional German music and classic rock along with German-style beverages and cuisine with family-friendly activities on Saturday afternoon during Naper Settlement’s Oktoberfest to be held from 5-10PM Fri., Oct. 3 and from noon to 10PM Sat., Oct. 4. Free parking is available. Advance tickets are available online $10 adults, $5 youth 4-12; at the gate, tickets are $15 adults, $10 youth (4-12). Members are free. Railroad Ramble Walking Tour

Take a walk on Naperville’s East Side, along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail line and immediate neighborhood, during the Railroad Ramble Walking Tour to be held from 2 to 3:30PM Sun., Oct. 5. The history and influence of rail service in Naperville, including the cultural impact of the railroad on the community, its industry and commerce, art and architecture will be discussed. Tour includes about 14 blocks of walking and steps off from the southwest corner of Burlington Square Park, 307 N. Ellsworth St.. Tickets are $12 person; $10 Sustaining Members.

Stories in Stone – A First Person Cemetery Walk

History comes alive as you “meet” Naperville residents from the past, all with an interesting story to tell, during Stories in Stone: A First Person Cemetery Walk to be held from 2 to 3:30PM Sat., Oct. 11. Groups of up to 15 guests will depart for the Naperville Cemetery every 15 minutes for a walking experience of approximately one hour; last tour steps off at 3:30PM. For ages 13 and up as some historical material may be too graphic for younger audiences. Tickets are $12 per person, $10 Sustaining Members and may be purchased at the Naper Settlement Pre-Emption House on the day of the program.

Sheep Sunday

Flock to Naper Settlement for a fun day of wooly activities, including a 1:45PM sheep dog herding demonstration, knitting and drop spindle demonstrations, make-it-take-it station, and more from 1 to 4PM Sun., Oct. 12 at Naper Settlement. Admission is $12 adults, $11 seniors, $8 youth 4-12; Naperville residents and members are free.

All Hallows Eve: Village of Fear

Experience two of the darkest nights of the year with haunting creatures, eerie entertainment and must-see horrors during All Hallows Eve to be held from 6:30 to 10PM Friday and Saturday, Oct. 17 and 18. This one-of-a-kind experience brings some of the scariest characters of the past, present and future to life. Meet the lost souls of the dead in a haunted happening you won’t forget. Not recommended for young children under 8 years old. Advance tickets are $10; $15 at the gate. Members are free.

History Speaks: Edgar Allen Poe – To Tell a Tale

Literary chills abound in this spine tingling program, “To Tell a Tale,” part of the History Speaks Lecture Series from 7 to 8PM Sun., Oct. 19 at Naper Settlement’s Century Memorial Chapel. Naperville. Terry Lynch as Edgar Allen Poe will give a brief biographical sketch of his life, followed by a retelling of some of Poe’s greatest works, including “The Raven” and “The Tell Tale Heart.” Reservations are recommended. Day of event tickets are $7 adult, $6 youth (4-12), students and Sustaining members. Advance tickets save $1 each.
