Naperville Independent Film Festival aka NIFF presents their 7th Annual Film Festival at AMC Showplace Naperville 16 and Smith Hall on the North Central College Campus, September 13-September 20. The Naperville Independent Film Festival was founded to celebrate Independent film long, short, fiction and documentary. The festival is committed to exhibiting films that express fresh voices and differing global perspectives, with the hope that these programs will enlighten audiences, provide invaluable exposure for filmmakers and present inspired entertainment for all. Over the seven years NIFF has screened over 1000 entries. And this year with over 125 films entered only 43 will make the big screen. Each night there will be a 7PM and a 9PM show, and during the showing we’ll have at least one and usually a few short films followed by a feature length film. Tickets can be purchased at the door and on AMC’s online ticketing website.

NIFF tickets will admit one to one of either the 7PM or 9PM showings. Also passes and packages allow filmgoers the best access to films, panels, parties, and more. Browse through show times and selections for the 2014 Naperville Independent Film Festival at http://www.naperfilmfest.org/Showtimes.

NAMI DuPage Course Offers Hope to Families – 7PM

Is your family struggling with a mental illness? You are not alone! NAMI of DuPage County (The National Alliance on Mental Illness) will be sponsoring the free NAMI Family to Family Education Program for families and caregivers of persons diagnosed with mental illnesses. The course is taught by trained family members. All instruction and course materials are free for class participants. The Family-to-Family course focuses on current information about schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder (manic depression), panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder, and co-occurring brain disorders and addictive disorders. The course discusses the clinical treatment of these illnesses and teaches the knowledge and skills that family members need to cope more effectively. The FREE 12 week course is taught by trained facilitators with the lived experience and will be held on: Sept. 16 Dec. 2, Tuesday, 7-9:30PM, Compass Church, Naperville (Faith Based) While the Family to Family program is an educational course, NAMI DuPage also has support groups at various locations. Wednesday, Sept. 17

Celebrate Constitution Day “Life, Liberty, Freedom & Prosperity” – All Day / Every Day
On September 17, 1787, the U.S. Constitution was signed by 39 brave men. It takes most adults about an hour to read the U.S. Constitution, complete with amendments; yet, volumes and volumes and volumes have been written to interpret it.  The walls of Naperville schools and the exterior of the Naperville Muncipal Center are graced with Freedom Shrine that includes a copy of the U.S. Constitution. The impressive display as pictured below is set just steps from the Dan Shanower Sept. 11 Memorial along the Riverwalk.

The Americanism Committee of the Naperville Exchange Club has presented the Freedom Shrine to schools, the VFW and other visible locations throughout Naperville. The permanent exhibit includes the U.S. Constitution along with copies of other important historical documents.

Constitution Week at 95th Street Library – Library Hours

In conjunction with Constitution Week, September 17 to 23, the Daughters of the American Revolution teamed up with Naperville Public Library to showcase another historical display dedicated to the U.S. Constitution. Consisting of books about the U.S. Constitution, an enlarged image of the Constitution, a 1776 photo of the flag as well as a map of the United States as it looked with 13 colonies, visitors to the 95th Street Library will find the display located behind the customer services desk.  The 95th Street Library, 3015 Cedar Glade Drive, is just east of Route 59 off 95th Street. Third Thursday Third Thursday is a time designated for families of children with special needs to enjoy the Museum. DCM is an ideal location for all learning abilities. Special activities last until 7PM. All activities are free with admission or membership. The Museum is open to the public until 8PM and everyone is welcome.
