Nuns on the Run keep title in Jaycees Bed Races

-

For the first time since 2011, the Annual Jaycees Last Fling Bed Races were greeted with fair weather this morning for the 11AM run for the championship title. In 2012 and 2013, the popular event was canceled at the last minute due to stormy forecasts and downright downpours.

Today, the track near Porter Ave., between Naper Settlement and the School District 203 Administration Building, was lined with cheering spectators, mostly fans in support of defending champs from St. Patrick’s Residence with their entry “Nuns on the Run.”

Assisted by four fast-paced students from Benedictine University, Sister Raphael positioned herself on the green and white decorated bedracer as the rules required, gripping the sides all the way.

And, of course, in between heats, youngsters were trying to catch up with Frank E. Fling, the Jaycees mascot, for photos.

By the end of the light competition, scorekeeper  Bev Frier noted the Nuns on the Run had come in first place again, followed by Young Naperville Professionals of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce in second place and NCTV17 in third place.

Thanks to all participants and  to Jaycees 2014 Bed Race Chairman Paul Nottoli for organizing another fun attraction during the Last Fling.
