North Central College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center – 171 E. Chicago Ave. Naperville, IL 60540
North Central College will showcase works by artist Dick Locher in an exhibit titled ‘Dick Locher: A Hometown Artist’ presented by Naper Settlement Aug. 22 through Sept. 28. The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. An artist reception will be held from 5 to 7:30PM Thursday, Sept. 25; complimentary refreshments will be served. Locher’s ability to capture the absurdities of life through political cartooning culminated in his winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1983 and garnering top honors from the Sigma Delta Chi/Society of Professional Journalists in the same year. A Naperville resident, Locher began his editorial cartooning career at the Chicago Tribune in 1973; he was the artist and writer for the ‘Dick Tracy’ comic strip. His cartoons were nationally syndicated by Tribune Media Services and have appeared in Life, Time, Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, Forbes, Playboy, The Congressional Record and hundreds of newspapers throughout the world. For gallery hours or to learn more about the exhibit contact Nickole C. Lanham, North Central’s gallery director, at 630.637.5375 or nclanhammurray@noctrl.edu.

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
