Imagine learning to create brilliantly colored icy popsicles in pastels.

The Naperville Art League will host a two-day workshop featuring instruction by artist Lisa Ober, PSA, from 9AM-5PM Sat. and Sun,. Sept 13 and 14.

The celebrated artist and gallery owner from Kirkwood, Missouri, will present the color-filled workshop, focused on still-life paintings in soft pastel. Instruction is aimed for skill levels from beginners to advanced. Drawing experience is helpful. The cost is $230 per person or $200 for Naperville Art League members, based on a minimum of 10 artists and maximum of 18.

Ober will take a step-by-step approach through her unique still-life technique, from the first sketch to the finished piece using a photo reference (provided).

“Short demonstrations followed by plenty of class work time will ignite a passion for still life painting as you see your painting take shape,” said Debbie Venezia, Executive Director of NAL. “You will get plenty of personal attention while learning the skills you need to create believable and realistic still life paintings that are loaded with impressive details. Lisa will discuss really seeing what you are painting, color selection, pastel application, and tackling difficult surfaces such as glass or metal-giving special attention to this area.”

According to Venezia, Ober’s enthusiasm for still-life painting is as contagious for the beginner as it is for the experienced painter. Regardless of the subject matter, participants will leave with some hot tips that will make future paintings stand out in a crowd.
