Focus on Safety – Have you heard of TRIAD?

-

smith_julieFor a little over five years the Naperville-Lisle TRIAD has been serving seniors in the community. TRIAD is a collaborative partnership between law enforcement, senior citizens, and community groups.

TRIAD’s have been developed in communities throughout Illinois and the nation to promote crime prevention for older adults. TRIAD empowers seniors to be more involved in community programs, educational seminars, and focuses on the importance of health and safety. One of the goals of the TRIAD is to increase the awareness of crimes against seniors. TRIAD’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for all senior citizens.

Some of the events that the Naperville-Lisle TRIAD organize are the annual spring and fall car care clinic, a senior picnic, crime prevention programs, and a holiday event. In August, there will be an event titled “Who’s really knocking at your door?” This will be a live demonstration of employees from various business and organizations in their uniforms. Too often seniors fall victim to scams from people who misrepresent themselves trying to gain entry into their home.

New this year / Sept. 12

The Naperville-Lisle Triad will be expanding our annual conference to reach even more seniors. We will be hosting a “Healthy, Wealthy & Wise” Conference from 9AM to 12PM Sept. 12, at the Naperville Municipal Center. Walk-in registrations begin at 7:30AM. Space is limited.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan will deliver the keynote address. The Attorney General’s office works to protect all Illinois seniors by taking legal action against those who prey on seniors and supporting legislation to toughen penalties against those who commit crimes against the elderly. Protecting and advocating for older citizens continues to be one of the most important responsibilities of the Attorney General’s office.

Also, Loretto Cowhig from the Northeastern Illinois Agency on the Aging will speak about “Navigating the Medicare Maze” and Attorney Linda Strohschein will present “State of the Estate.” An exhibition area with over 35 organizations representing healthcare, safety, and long legal services will be featured, too. Prizes will be raffled to attendees.
