Have you ever heard of Vet Centers? Chances are you haven’t. Vet Centers across the country provide a broad range of services to combat veterans or veterans who experienced military sexual trauma, male and female, of any era.
They provide counseling, outreach, and referral services to combat Veterans and their families. Vet Centers guide Veterans and their families through many of the readjustments in lifestyle that often occur after a Veteran returns from combat. Services may include individual and group counseling in areas such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), alcohol and drug assessment and suicide prevention referrals. All services are free of cost and are strictly confidential.
What happens at the Vet Center stays at the Vet Center!
Another great fact is that there are no wait times at the Vet Center. Stop by and you will be seen. The reason I am giving you this background information is because we are blessed to have the DuPage Vet Center in our back yard. The address is 750 Shoreline Drive, Ste. 150, Aurora, IL 60504. The phone number is (630) 585-1853. They offer a full range of services.
In addition to the services I listed they also have a representative from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs on site who is an accredited Veteran Service Officer (VSO). The first Tuesday of the every month, the Veterans representative from the Illinois Department of Employment Security is on site. Also, on the first Tuesday of every month the Hines Mobile Medical Unit is at the Vet Center.
The Vet Center has an excellent Women Veterans Program. The team leader, Patricia Wasisco, provides counseling and outstanding programs for the Women Veterans. Additionally, counseling and programs are provided for spouses/significant others and couples.
I have been using the resources of the DuPage Vet Center for the past year. My wife and I have gone to couples counseling. I can’t say enough about the staff. They are truly dedicated individuals. They treat all with respect and kindness.
This is truly a resource that we should use more. Stop by or give them a call!
