The concert series featuring the Naperville Municipal Band will begin on Thursday, June 5 at 7:30PM in Central Park.The band invites local non-profi ts serving the Naperville area to apply to sponsor an ice cream social and choose the sponsors by lottery.
The Naperville Garden Club will be sponsoring the ice cream social for the first concert of the season. This year, because of new regulations by the Naperville Park District and the DuPage County Health Department, all baked goods must be store-bought rather than homemade. Work is in progress at the Illinois Department of Public Health to amend the Code to allow bake sales. But for now, we need to comply and know our concert-goers will enjoy pies made by Mrs. Smith, Sara Lee, Marie Callender, Chef Pierre and other bakers. Personally, one of my alltime favorite pies is the “Fruits of the Forest” pie made by my good friend Sara Lee that has apples, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and rhubarb in it. Yum! If you come early enough, there may a piece waiting for you!
Although the concert starts at 7:30PM many start to arrive around 6PM. to find a good seat, to mingle and chat with new and old friends and most importantly to get fi rst choice of the yummy items off ered at the ice cream social! Each concert has a different theme and Naperville is lucky to have such a talented band for us to enjoy all summer long at these free concerts.
