Original Post May 31, 2014 / The Naperville Municipal Band is celebrating its 155th season by kicking off its summer concert series at 7:30PM Thurs., June 5, with the theme, “Strike Up the Band,” featuring the eighth-grade scholarship winners.
The band will present 11 free concerts beginning at 7:30PM Thursday evenings from June 5 to Aug. 14 with the exception of the patriotic concert on Wed., July 2, at the Community Concert Center in Central Park, 104 E. Benton Ave.
The band is directed by Ron Keller and Assistant Director René Rosas. Each concert also has an ice cream social, sponsored by a local nonprofit organization.
The first 1,000 audience members to arrive in Central Park will have a chance to win one of four $25 gift certificates – two from the local merchant supporting that evening’s performance and two from the band.
Thanks to the Downtown Naperville Alliance, the following merchants are sponsors including Naper Settlement, Catch 35, Naperville General Store, Two Bostons, Naperville Bank & Trust, Ellman’s Music Center, Le Chocolat du Bouchard and Score 18 Indoor Golf.
The patriotic celebration, “America the Beautiful,” will be held on Wed., July 2, with the Chorus of DuPage men’s a capella barbership chorus singing great American music from 6:45PM to 7:15PM. The popular concert begins at 7:30PM and features the 1812 Overture accompanied by Civil War cannons and local church bells ringing.
