Naperville Area Humane Society names new executive director

nahs logoThe Naperville Area Humane Society (NAHS) has appointed Anna Payton as Executive Director.

According to the NAHS Board of Directors, Payton has a unique combination of education and animal welfare experience that will allow her to successfully move forward the mission of NAHS.

Most recently, Payton held the position of the Director of Kendall County Animal Control.  Prior to that, she worked as an Animal Control Officer and Humane Education & Public Events Coordinator for DuPage County Animal Care & Control. Anna has served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Professional Humane Educators (APHE).  She also volunteers her time with various humane societies and breed specific rescues.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she was also a department instructor. She received her Master’s degree in Teaching with emphasis in Humane Education from Webster University.

“I am honored to be named the Executive Director for NAHS, and excited to lead an organization that provides a variety of services for the people and companion animals in Naperville and surrounding area” said Payton in a news release. “It is wonderful to be taking on role where I will be surrounded by compassionate staff, caring volunteers, and passionate board of directors.  Our goal is to continue to be progressive in our animal welfare efforts and in serving the local community”.

Payton shares her home with a black Lab, a Rottweiler/Pit Bull mix, an English Mastiff mix, three munchkin cats, her husband Dave, her son Auggie, and her daughter Carly.
