The VFW Friday Night Fish Fry will start Fri., Feb. 28, and run every Friday through Good Friday, April 18. Open to the public the family-friendly Friday Night Fish Fry runs for eight weeks serving 5-8PM. Pricing for this year is Adults $12 ea; Seniors (65+) $10 ea; and Children (10 & under) are $7 ea. Again the VFW is partnering with Belgio’s Catering.

The Hundred Club of DuPage County will host a special charity event beginning at 8PM on both Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12. Children can bring their baskets and tour Safety Town to hunt for eggs, collect treats at stations, meet Mr. & Mrs. Easter Bunny, take pictures and learn a few safety tips! Cost is $7 per family and a suggested donation of non-perishable food items is kindly accepted to help Humanitarian Service Project who supports impoverished families, children and seniors in DuPage and Kane County. All who donate a food item will have a chance to win a prize! This event will be held outside at Safety Town, rain date is April 13. $7 per family at door, non-perishable food item donation appreciated.

Stage and screen legend Ben Vereen brings his one-man show ‘Steppin’ Out Live with Ben Vereen’ to North Central College April 12. Few entertainers today are as accomplished or versatile as Vereen. On Broadway, he has appeared in ‘Wicked,’ ‘Fosse,’ ‘I’m Not Rappaport,’ ‘Hair,’ ‘Jesus Christ Superstar,’ ‘Grind,’ ‘Jellys Last Jam’ and ‘A Christmas Carol.’ His role in ‘Pippin’ garnered him both the prestigious Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award for Best Actor in a Musical. In 2012, Vereen was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame and the Dance Hall of Fame. For more than 40 years, he has showcased his versatility and creativity performing countless shows in the United States, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. Besides performing with symphonies nationwide, Vereen tours with his one man show ‘Steppin’ Out Live with Ben Vereen,’ featuring the music of Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra and the best of Broadway. Dr. Bruce Kraig, founding president of the Culinary Historians of Chicago, will talk about the Food Revolution: How the Civil War Changed Food in America, from 4-5 p.m. Sunday, April 13 at Naper Settlement’s Century Memorial Chapel. Part of the History Speaks Lecture Series, the presentation will focus on the fascinating history of food in the mid-19th century and how Chicago became a center for canned food processing. Advance tickets are $6 adults, $5 students, youth and Naperville Heritage Society Sustaining members. On the day of the presentation, tickets are $1 more. 2014 Xilin Lantern Festival – 6:30PM | $10-$20

The Xilin Art Academy of Naperville will be hosting the 9th Annual Lantern Festival at Pfeiffer Hall at North Central College on Sunday 6:30PM, April 13. The performance will feature Xilin Dance Troupe, Jilin Song and Dance Company from China, Illinois Shaolin Kungfu in Naperville, Chicago Sinfonietta, the unique Crazy Violin show, and students from North Central College. These festivities serve to promote cross-cultural engagement between the different ethnic groups within the local Chicago-land community.
