Beware of phone, e-mail and Internet scams. Never, never give your password, credit card number or social security number to an unknown caller over the telephone or via e-mail. No matter how convincing a professional scammer might seem, never give any personal information to someone you don’t know at any time.

Reports of scammers with official-sounding “Naperville” business names are growing. To be safe, say “NO!” to all solicitors.

If an individual calls or comes to your door from any company attempting to represent the NPD or the city, contact (630) 420-6142.

Chorus of DuPage invites male singers to guest night

The Chorus of DuPage, a men’s a cappella barbershop chorus, is hosting a free guest night at 7:15PM on Tues, April 8, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 815 S. Washington St.

All men from teens to seniors, who like to sing, are invited to experience singing a cappella four-part barbershop harmony with a men’s chorus. The chorus welcomes all levels of singers from beginning singers to experienced singers.

The Chorus of DuPage is part of the Barbershop Harmony Society, an international singing organization with nearly 26,000 male members in the United States and Canada.

ESLP offers free GED and career training

The Early School Leaver Program (ESLP) is a unique program offering free GED preparation, workplace skill-building, and specific career training for DuPage residents aged 17-21. Lantern Festival celebrates the Chinese New Year

The Xilin Association will be host the Ninth Annual Lantern Festival in celebration of the Chinese New Year beginning at 6:30PM Sun., April 13. The event will be staged at Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave.

The New Year variety show features Chinese modern and traditional ethnic dance, martial arts, and music.

The festival is a collaboration of Xilin Art Academy, North Central College, the Song and Dance Company of Jilin Province in China, the Chicago Sinfonietta, and “Crazy Violinist” Shaobo Zhang This year’s show will be directed by Ms. Xiang-lan Chen from the Jilin Song and Dance Company. The Jilin Song and Dance Company will partner with Xilin Art Academy to produce an innovative, exciting, and engaging evening for people of all ages.

Organizers welcome all to join the experience and celebrate the opening days of the Year of the Horse.

Yoga classes at mklab

Terry Quigley has been practicing yoga for over 13 years, and if you asked his daughters, they would tell you he believes yoga and grapefruit are the cures for anything and everything.

Quigley will be teaching yoga classes this April: Thursdays at 7PM, Saturday at noon, and Sundays at 4:30PM at the studios of mklab in downtown Naperville, 20 W. Jefferson St., 2nd floor.

During February and March, yoga class proceeds of $600 was donated to the “Breast Cancer Research Foundation,” with the help of mklab.

Battle of the Bands is May 9

High school student rock bands are invited to apply for a spot in the Naperville Park District Youth Ambassadors’ eleventh annual Battle of the Bands contest. The event will take place from 4:30-8PM on Fri., May 9 at the Community Concert Center in Central Park, located at 104 E. Benton Ave.

Applications and a demo CD or flash drive must be received by 4PM Mon., April 21, 2014 to be considered. The application form can be accessed online at http://www.napervilleparks.org/battleofthebands. Bands can mail or drop off their entries to Fred Gusel at the Naperville Park District Administration Building in downtown Naperville. The mailing address is:

The first place winner will perform at Ribfest at a time to be determined and will advance to the Illinois Park District Association’s Regional Battle of the Bands with a chance to perform at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield. The second and third place finishers will play at the Naperville Park District’s Rollin’ on the River series on the Riverwalk in July.

The Youth Ambassadors is a group of high school students who work with the Naperville Park District to plan community-wide special events for teens each year.

Serendipity Shop seeks donations year-round

The Serendipity Resale Shop is a volunteer-run shop, located at 12 W. Jefferson Ave. in downtown Naperville.

Donations of clean, gently-used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing of all sizes are welcome. Donors are asked not to include items that are stained or torn. The resale shop is in need of linens and home decorating items, such as lamps, dishes and clocks as well as household items, jewelry and collectibles.

German language church service

Church services in the German language will be held at St. John United Church of Christ at 11:30AM on Sun., April 6. The service will be led by Pastor Egon Gerdes, and all are welcome to attend. St. John UCC is located at 1190 Olesen Dr.

Visit Veterans, play Bingo

Every month from September to June on the second Tuesday, a motorcoach departs at 6:15PM from the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 and American Legion Post 43, 908 W. Jackson Ave. with folks eager to spread good cheer to veterans receiving treatment at Hines VA Hospital in Maywood.

The public is welcome to help fill the motorcoach again on Tues., April 8.

‘Bootcamp’ will benefit Naperville CARES

Victory Martial Arts Naperville, located at 1003 W. Ogden Ave., will hold one full week of their exclusive martial arts fitness boot camp from April 7 – 13 to benefit Naperville CARES.

“Your 7 Day Fitness Breakthrough Boot Camp” will incorporate elements from kick boxing to cross fit style training to create a class that is exciting, fun and gets results. Donation is $15 for the entire week. Attend as many classes as you would like.
