Money Smart, Don’t Be Scammed – 7PM
Edward Hospital – 801 S. Washington St. Naperville, IL 60540
Come learn how to prevent, identify theft and respond to financial exploitation, plan for a secure financial future, and make informed financial decisions. Guest speaker Alexi Vahlkamp, from Age Options, Oak Park, IL will review the most common types of scams and explain the Adult Protective Services (young and senior adults) in a one hour presentation. The Money Smart financial curriculum is a training module developed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and Consumer Financial Protective Bureau ( CFPB) that provides information to raise awareness to the public. Senior financial exploitation is the leading type of abuse in Illinois. Funds lost to financial abuse are often irretrievable and scammers can swindle victims out of their entire life savings. In collaboration with the Illinois Department on Aging, Age Options organized the Older Americans Protection Network (OAPN) to address the growing issue of financial exploitation in metropolitan Chicago. The network includes professionals from public and private agencies, including social services, financial institutions, legal services, law enforcement, and many others. The OAPN has served as the foundation for the development of the iFAST (Illinois Financial Abuse Specialist Team). The curriculum, hosted by Naperville Evening Kiwanis will be held March 31, 7:00 p.m. at Edward Hospital, Education Center, 3rd Floor. Park – North Parking Deck.
