2014 Cuisine for a Cause

Naperville CARES invites the community to a fundraising event featuring samples of signature dishes from over 20 of the best Naperville area restaurants, wine and beer tastings, live entertainment and auctions.

The 11th Annual Cuisine for a Cause, a benefit for Naperville CARES, will be held at a new location, Navistar Corporate Headquarters from 6:30-10:30PM at 2701 Navistar Dr. on Sat., April 26. Individual tickets are offered for open seating at $90 per person before March 31 or $100 after. Tickets include food, drink and entertainment, and can be purchased online at www.napervillecares.org or by calling the CARES office at (630) 369-0200.

German language church service

Church services in the German language will be held at St. John United Church of Christ at 11:30AM on Sun., March 2. The service will be led by Pastor Egon Gerdes, and all are welcome to attend. St. John UCC is located at 1190 Olesen Dr.

German services are held on the first Sunday of every month and will continue on April 6 and May 4. For more info, call (630) 355-5208.

The Guild of St. Patrick’s Residence invites you, your family and all your friends to a “Come to Mom’s House Party,” a day of merriment, entertainment, family fun, traditional tastes and Irish Sweepstakes. Come and enjoy the Irish musicians, Irish and Scottish dancers, games and face painting for the children, raffle and meet the image of St. Patrick. Sister Kathleen will give you a warm welcome, too, from 10:30AM to 3PM Sun., March 2.

Visit Veterans, play Bingo

Every month from September to June on the second Tuesday, a motorcoach departs at 6:15PM from the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 and American Legion Post 43, 908 W. Jackson Ave. with folks eager to spread good cheer to veterans receiving treatment at Hines VA Hospital in Maywood.

The public is welcome to help fill the motorcoach again on Tues., Mar. 11.

Serendipity Shop seeks donations year-round

The Serendipity Resale Shop is a volunteer-run shop, located at 12 W. Jefferson Ave. in downtown Naperville.

Donations of clean, gently-used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing of all sizes are welcome. Donors are asked not to include items that are stained or torn. The resale shop is in need of linens and home decorating items, such as lamps, dishes and clocks as well as household items, jewelry and collectibles.

Glee Club International Showcase

The Naperville Men’s Glee Club presents the “NMGC Spring Invitational Showcase 2014” at 3PM on Sun., March 23 at Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Along with the Glee Club, top amateur singers and singing groups from the area will stage a delightful, entertaining show which includes pop, jazz, patriotic, Broadway and gospel music. Students from Naperville Central, Metea Valley and Waubonsie Valley high schools will perform, plus two adult ensembles and The Boys Choir /Young Men’s Chorus from Young Naperville Singers. Tickets will be available in March from any Glee Club member, online at www.nmgc.org or by calling (630) 448-0518. Prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students. Tickets will be available at the door prior to the concert (cash or check).

Boy Scout Troop 100 Pancake Breakfast

Boy Scout Troop 100 will host their Annual Pancake Breakfast, 7AM to noon on Sat. March 8, The breakfast will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 21 E. Franklin Ave.

The boys of Troop 100 will be serving pancakes, sausage, orange juice, milk and coffee. Tickets for the event are $5, or $15 for a family. In addition to delicious food there will be a raffle with some great prizes.

Funds from the event will be used to support all of the activities for the troop including badge advancement, camping, hiking, and high adventure events.

Billy Elton benefit Concert at Neuqua

Billy Elton returns to the Neuqua Valley Auditorium at 7:30PM on March 21 to support the memorial funds of two fondly remembered Neuqua teachers, Tom Schlegel and David Scheidecker.

Billy Elton celebrates the music of Billy Joel and Elton John, and features Reid Spears, who is a Neuqua music staff member. The band also includes Neuqua music staff members Ryan Rimington and Brad Pfeil. Tickets are $10 and are now available at www.neuquamusic.org/billy-elton. Andrew Sisters Tribute Show coming to the Wentz

Beware of phone, e-mail and Internet scams. Never, never give your password, credit card number or social security number to an unknown caller over the telephone or via e-mail. No matter how convincing a professional scammer might seem, never give any personal information to someone you don’t know at any time.

Reports of scammers with official-sounding “Naperville” business names are growing. To be safe, say “NO!” to all solicitors.

Center for Lifelong Learning offers classes for adult learners

Benedictine University’s Center for Lifelong Learning offers adult noncredit classes, with no papers, tests, or grades, for adult learners age 50 plus at the Moser Center in Naperville, 1832 Centre Point Circle Ste. 102, just off Diehl Rd.

ESLP offers free GED and career training

The Early School Leaver Program (ESLP) is a unique program offering free GED preparation, workplace skill-building, and specific career training for DuPage residents aged 17-21. Sunday afternoon Yoga classes to benefit breast cancer research

Terry Quigley has been practicing yoga for over 13 years, and if you asked his daughters, they would tell you he believes yoga and grapefruit are the cures for anything and everything.

Quigley will be teaching yoga class on Sundays at the studios of mklab in downtown Naperville, 20 W. Jefferson St., 2nd floor.

The classes start at 4:30PM and are 75 minutes to help students strengthen and lengthen the body while improving overall flexibility and balance. All yoga class fee proceeds in the month of March will be donated to the “Breast Cancer Research Foundation” Sign up early as space is limited. Visit www.mklabpilates.com to reserve your space.
