Welcome to 2014! As we reflect on a great year for the Naperville Fire Department, we are looking forward to even more improvements in our service to the greatest city in the country!
The fire department responded to over 11,000 calls for service. Ranging mostly from emergency medical calls, to service and rescue calls of all types. We are proud to have seen a drop in our structure fire calls and are continuing to promote messages related to fire prevention and citizen safety through our Fire Marshals’ Office and public education efforts. Our best communicators are still the children we are able to work with and teach a variety of fire safety skills, that they in turn take home and share with family members.
Our citizen outreach has grown through our involvement with the Citizens Appreciate Public Safety (CAPS) Board that meets regularly throughout the year to recognize the efforts of not only our firefighter/paramedics but also the citizens of the community that come to the aid of others in an emergency before we arrive on the scene.
Safety continues to be one of our top priorities and in 2013, the fire department broke many City safety records related to on the job injuries, lost time and OSHA reportable accidents. We are also proud of our volunteer corp. as seen in our Naperville Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) who support the fire department operations in ways such as lighting, rehab, breathing air tank resources and communications. We also have seen our Naperville Search and Rescue teams expand and respond to many incidents both locally and statewide.
Our theme for 2014 is “Engaging the Community” and we hope that we can work closer with citizens in ways that help to prepare and react to situations and events that occur so that injuries and illnesses can be prevented which will only result in an even safer Naperville.
Thank you for your trust and support in all that we do. Our service will always be dedicated to improving the quality of life throughout the city and our efforts in partnering with every aspect of the community will help us achieve that goal.
