Visit Day at North Central College
High school students and their parents or guardians are invited to attend North Central College’s Visit Day on Monday, Jan. 20. Registration begins at 9:30AM in the Wentz Concert Hall lobby at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., and concludes with lunch at 12:30PM. High-achieving students are invited to an optional session at 9AM. Visitors can take a walking tour and attend informative sessions on financial aid, academic highlights and student life. Visit Day at Benedictine University
Attend “Preferred Visit Day,” an event held specifically for prospective undergraduate students who want to find out more about Benedictine University, named the fastest-growing university in the country by The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Preferred Visit Day attendees meet with Admissions staff in small group settings to discuss Benedictine University’s renowned academic programs, the admissions process and requirements, applications, scholarships and financial aid. Prospective students will be given a guided tour of campus by current students.
Students may choose to attend one of three Preferred Visit Day sessions at 10AM, noon and 2PM on Monday, January 20 at Benedictine’s main campus in Lisle, 5700 College Rd.

19th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast at Benedictine University
Timothy W. Goodly, Ph.D., senior vice president of human resources for CNN Worldwide, Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) Inc., will be the featured speaker at the 19th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast hosted by Benedictine University and College of DuPage (COD) on Monday, January 20, 2014.
The breakfast will be held from 8-9:30AM on the second floor of the Krasa Student Center at Benedictine University, 5700 College Rd. in Lisle, named the fastest-growing university in the country by The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Goodly will present “Invoking the Hero in Each of Us,” followed by breakout sessions centered on the theme of “Living Together” led by William J. Carroll, Ph.D., president of Benedictine University, and Joseph E. Collins, Ph.D., executive vice president at COD.
The King Breakfast, which honors the legacy of the civil rights leader and celebrates diversity, is one of the largest events of its kind in the state. More than 500 community leaders and citizens attend annually. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund at Benedictine and COD.

School’s Out: Book It! at Naper Settlement
During this School’s Out program, “Book It,” for students in grades 1-6, celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy of literacy and volunteer service from 9AM to 3PM Mon., Jan. 20. Help build a Little Free Library at the museum, make a bookmark in the Print Shop, recite a poem and write on a slate in the Schoolhouse, make a recycled book, complete mad libs, enjoy a snack during storytime with a special guest reader, and more. Campers are encouraged to bring a gently used or new children’s book to donate for Naper Settlement’s Little Free Library. The fee is $45 per child and includes a snack. Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry / Volunteer Open House
Have you wanted to find a way to give back to your community? Attend a Volunteer Open House at Loaves & Fishes on Mon., Jan. 20, to learn about becoming a volunteer. Tour the facility and speak with veteran volunteers who perform a variety of tasks. Registration and orientation will be combined, allowing attendees to register immediately for volunteer shifts.
