With temperatures on the rise and rain anticipated in the forecast, the City of Naperville would like to remind residents to be aware of potential flooding conditions.
Melting snow and rain will cause more runoff than normal as a result of the frozen ground and its inability to absorb water. With these conditions, residents should expect water will temporarily accumulate in locations near drains or in areas where drainage may be blocked by snow piles or drifts.
Residents can assist by making sure their storm drains are clear from snow, especially those drains that are located in backyards. If drainage paths are blocked in yards, residents should clear the path so the water can drain as intended. Homeowners should also make sure gutters, downspouts and sump pump discharge pipes are open and operating properly.
The City of Naperville will have crews available to monitor and address any flooding issues that are reported. Any unusual accumulation or ponding of water for an extended period of time can be reported to City Dispatch at (630) 420-6187.
