Work will begin the week of January 6, 2014, weather permitting, to line sanitary sewer mains in the Cress Creek subdivision and nearby areas. Work will take place in Cress Creek, Cress Creek Commons, Century Farms, Creekside Manor and the eastern portion of Brush Hill as part of the City’s Sanitary Sewer Lining Program. These areas have been in the City’s work plan for some time, but due to the localized impact of the April 2013 flood, the City has advanced the schedule of this lining work to early 2014.
The Sanitary Sewer Lining Program is designed to rehabilitate Naperville’s older sewer mains using cured-in-place pipelining (CIPP) technology, which requires no digging and avoids tree loss, landscape damage and long-term traffic disruption. The lining, placed within the existing pipe, forms a watertight seal to prevent groundwater infiltration during heavy rains, enhances the structural integrity of the pipe and extends its useful life by more than 50 years. Naperville has used CIPP to rehabilitate more than 80 miles of sanitary sewer since 1991.
Work is anticipated to be complete on this project by April 2014. Residential streets in these neighborhoods are expected to remain open during construction; on-street parking and access to driveways may be temporarily restricted at certain times. Those impacted will receive advance notice. When the pipeline is being lined in the immediate vicinity of homes, those residents will be asked to fill their floor drains with fresh water so as to prevent sewer gases and odors from entering their living spaces. A door hanger will be provided 24 hours in advance with a reminder of this information. Any damage to lawns or parkways will be professionally restored at the end of the project.
