I had the opportunity to be in many of our schools over the past few weeks. It is a wonderful time of year to visit and talk with students and teachers. There is definitely energy and excitement as students finish the semester and prepare for winter break.

At this time of year, many of our schools bring together students, parents, and staff to provide support to our families in need. Support is strong from within our schools, but it is also strong from our broader community. This year, more than 20 businesses and civic groups provided support for 1,780 students in our district. The holiday season will be a bit brighter for these students due to the generosity of so many in our community.

The following have my sincere gratitude for helping our District 204 families this year: Alliance for the Children, Anderson’s Bookshop, Barnes & Noble, Boy Scouts, Buchar Family Chiropractic, Country Inn & Suites, Courtyard by Marrriott, DuPage/Kane County Toys for Tots, Fry YMCA, Grace United Methodist Church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Hampton Inn, Indian Prairie Educational Foundation, KidsMatter Inc., Marriott Chicago-Naperville, Naperville Convention and Visitors Bureau, Naperville Jaycees, Naperville Rotary Charities, Rotary Club of Naperville, Rotary Club of Naperville-South, Westfield Shopping Center, and Wheatland Salem Church.

I hope you enjoy the upcoming winter break with your children. We look forward to welcoming them back to the classroom on January 6.

Kathy Birkett, Superintendent
