The Art of Connecting – Smiles come with the giving spirit

-

December is possibly the busiest month of the year. Concerts to see. Presents to buy. Parties to attend. I believe there should be some time set aside for giving back to the community. It’s wonderful when there are so many opportunities to see children smile.

haselhorstFor example, from 5 to 8PM Tues. through Thurs., Dec. 3-5, “Special Needs Night” will be at the Santa House located along the Riverwalk on Jackson Ave. at S. Webster St. Families with special needs may make online reservations for a visit with Santa. Admission is free and photos can cost $8 to $15. Make a reservation at www.napervilleparks.org/santahouse. Everyone needs a memorable picture with Santa!

To go along with that, from 9-12AM Sat., Dec. 7, the Jaycees are hosting “Santa Pet Pics.” All proceeds support the Holiday Food Giving Program benefiting the Northern Illinois Food Bank’s mission to feed hungry people in DuPage County. The event will be held at VCA Bolingbrook #252, 570 Concord Lane in Bolingbrook.

Photos cost $5/photo or $3/photo/food donation. Please bring a nonperishable item. We never realize there are people in our own neighborhoods that need our help, especially during the holidays.

To be fair, one of the main reasons I love Christmastime is because of the holiday tunes. There is nothing like singing old-fashioned holiday carols! That is why the Judd Kendall VFW /American Legion Post at 908 W. Jackson Ave. provides a giving opportunity to spread good cheer and sing holiday tunes at Hines V.A. Hospital on Tues., Dec. 10. Join veterans and friends by taking a deluxe motorcoach to Hines V.A. Hospital to visit with veterans receiving treatment. Sign up in the Canteen at the VFW Post by 6:15PM Tues., Dec. 10. The motorcoach departs promptly at 6:30PM and will return by 9PM.

With such busy lives, be sure to take the time for the season. There will always be time to get errands done in the New Year! Celebrate and enjoy this time with your families and friends. I wish you Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
