Be prepared for changing seasons

-

NAHC Camera Ready LogoAs the days are getting shorter and the leaves are falling from the trees, we are fast nearing the end of the longest and most vexing season of the year – road construction. With the exception of areas requiring excavation (like Route 59 and the 95th Street Bridge) the barricades will be disappearing as we get closer to the annual shut-down of the asphalt plants. This unfortunately does not mean an immediate improvement to traffic flow, since I can practically guarantee that when the snow falls some of our neighbors will forget the nuances of winter driving and create their own problems getting from here to there.

With Transportation being one of the three key initiatives in Naperville’s updated Strategic Plan, the Confederation’s meeting on Nov. 16 will feature Planning and Transportation Team Leader Karyn Robles’ group. They will provide an update on where we have been, and what is on the horizon to help move people across our community. With Confederation Director—and Naperville Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) member—Kathy Benson chairing the November meeting, we anticipate exposure to some good information as well as a meaningful discussion and answers to resident questions.

Looking ahead, the NAHC would like to hear from our neighbors about the things they think are important and where they would like our emphasis placed in the upcoming months. Even though our Board represents all corners of our community, I sometimes worry that we are zeroed in on what we, as somewhat over-involved individuals, think is important as opposed to looking at those things that our other neighbors are concerned about.

We are here to seek out information, educate, bring people together, foster dialogue, and to advocate, when and where appropriate. Are we addressing the right issues? Where and how can we do better? Let me know!
