McGruff the Crime Dog welcomed many costumed racers Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth Seton Church at the second annual Naperville Crime Stoppers Running Scared 5K to take a bite out of crime. The 5K was held in conjunction with National Crime Prevention Month to raise awareness for public safety.
McGruff would like to remind kids and parents to be safe this week while trick-or-treating as Halloween approaches this Thursday. “If you see something, say something,” said McGruff.
McGruff recommends residents read Julie Smith’s column Halloween Tips and Treats before trick-or-treating this Thursday. Smith is the Crime Prevention Specialist for the Naperville Police Department. There are no official trick-or-treat hours in Naperville, but 4-8PM is a safe bet.
Downtown Naperville will host a pair of family friendly events Sunday afternoon. The Downtown Naperville Alliance will hold its annual trick-or-treat from 3-5PM and the Park District will hold its Halloween Happening at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion from 1-4PM.
The Crime Stoppers is a crime prevention program geared toward public involvement in the fight against crime. It provides an avenue which permits and encourages citizens to contribute to the safety of the Naperville community.
