Phone calls, texting, emails, Skype, facebook: in schools and on campuses everywhere, it seems that students have plenty to say and have plenty of ways to say it. Recognizing this, the After Hours Film Society adds to the mix by giving students the opportunity to make their statement through the use of film. In After Hours’ “Say It In Eight” Student Film Festival, festival organizers took a page from Twitter’s book and imposed a limit on the length of the entries. Specifications of the rules indicate that films must be eight minutes or less in order to be eligible.
Students from across the nation responded to the After Hours Film Society’s “Call for Filmmakers” announced last fall and submitted their original productions for consideration in the society’s 11th annual festival. A team of judges will evaluate the entries based on age level (grammar, high school, undergraduate and graduate) and category (fiction, nonfiction and animation/experimental).
The jurors will meet to screen, dissect, analyze and rank each film. Those films receiving the highest ratings will be compiled into a special program and that will be presented to the public at the After Hours Film Society’s “Say It In Eight” Student Film Festival at the Tivoli Theatre, 5021 Highland, Downers Grove, IL.
From live action to experimental, this year’s winning films promise to challenge and entertain. Here is your chance to peek inside the mind of the next generation of fi lmmakers. Why not treat yourself to this captivating and inspiring event? Your support could make a difference!
