oktoberfest-4Oktoberfest at Naper Settlement / 5-10PM / During Naper Settlement’s Oktoberfest, enjoy traditional German music, beer and cuisine from 5-10PM Friday, Oct. 4 and from noon to 10PM Saturday, Oct. 5 under the tent at 523 S. Webster St., Naperville. Enjoy family-friendly activities from noon to 5PM on Saturday afternoon. Firefighters’ Appreciation Day will be held Oct. 5 and features Naperville firefighters competing against each other in a chili cook-off. Advance tickets are $10 adult (13+), $5 youth (4–12). At the gate, tickets are $15 adult (13+), $10 youth (4-12). Food and beverages are not included in the ticket price. Black Cat Ball / 6PM / Join the Humane Society on Friday, October 4, 2013 for the annual Black Cat Ball at the Hilton Lisle/Naperville, 3003 Corporate West Drive in Lisle. 630 Fashion Show Benefiting 360 Youth Services / 7:30PM / The annual 630 Fashion Show benefiting 360 Youth Services will be held at Hotel Arista, 2139 CityGate Lane,  on Friday, October 4.  Cocktail hour begins at 7:30PM and the big show starts at 9PM. recycleRecycling Extravaganza / 9AM – noon / North Central College will host a Recycling Extravaganza from 9AM to noon Saturday, Oct. 5, on its campus in the parking lots behind Merner Field House, 450 S. Brainard St. This event is open to DuPage County residents, not businesses or nonprofit organizations. To drop off items to be recycled, residents must enter the parking lots from Loomis Street. 25th Annual Run for the Mind /Benefit 5K for NAMI DuPage / 7:30AM /Celebrate human spirit when NAMI DuPage hosts the 25th Annual Run for the Mind to increase awareness about mental illness and raise funds to support education and programs for people with mental illnesses and their families. Individuals or teams can register for the 5K Run or 5K Walk in advance or on the day of the event.   In addition to race times for all and awards for top male and female finishers in different age categories, refreshments and educational materials will be available. The Run for the Mind is a CARA certified race at the Danada Forrest Preserve in Wheaton, 3S580 Naperville Road. Race Day Registration begins at 7:30AM. Pre-Race Registration at www.namidupage.org. Cost: $25 to $30.

Public Safety Open House / 11AM – 2PM / Join friends, neighbors, business associates when the Naperville Fire Department and the Naperville Police Department “Partner for Prevention” during Public Safety Month in October.  As is tradition, the annual open house is the first Saturday in October, 11AM to 2PM, Sat., Oct. 5, kicking off a month of educational activities throughout the city at the Public Safety Campus, River Rd. and Aurora Ave.

Blues-Brothers-Main-(1)‘The Official Blues Brothers Revue’ / 8PM / Dan Aykroyd, Judy Belushi and musical director Paul Shaffer present “The Official Blues Brothers Revue” at 8PM Saturday, Oct. 5, in North Central College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave., Naperville. German Church Service / 11:30AM / Church services in the German language will be held at 11:30AM on Sunday, October 6, at St. John United Church of Christ in Naperville, 1190 Olesen Drive. The service will be led by Pastor Egon Gerdes, and all are welcome to attend. Services are held on the first Sunday of every month and will continue on November 3 and December 1. Heritage Hall of Fame / 2PM / The Heritage Hall of Honor will recognize partners in the community who have made a significant impact and contribution to Naper Settlement and the Naperville Heritage Society. This year’s honorees are Century Walk, Minuteman Press, Naperville Development Partnership, Naperville Magazine, Naperville Woman’s Club and Positively Naperville. The presentation will be held at 2PM Sunday, Oct. 6, at Naper Settlement’s Century Memorial Chapel, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville and is open to the public at no charge. Singing for Seniors / 4 – 5:30PM / Big Band Sounds will be featured at 14th Annual Singing for Seniors Concert. Seniors are invited to sit back, relax and enjoy an afternoon concert designed just for them at the Compass Church, 1551 Hobson Road.  The church offers ample parking and is handicap accessible.  Singing for Seniors is a free event for people 55 and better.  Free transportation is available for Naperville residents in need of a ride.  No tickets are necessary.  Open seating. Hearts for Hesed House Masquerade Party at Meson Sabika / 5-8PM / The  Hearts for Hesed House Masquerade Party being held at Meson Sabika, 1025 Aurora Avenue, on Sunday, October 6, from 5-8PM.  Hesed House is the second largest homeless shelter in the State of Illinois, and the largest shelter outside of the city of Chicago. This event will help men, women and children in our area receive the supplies and shelter they need.  The event will be fun and all you need to bring is a mask or purchase one at the event being made by Hesed House very creative residence.
