Brief Bio
KC & The Sunshine Band is a three-time Grammy Award-winning group that has sold more than 100 million records and boasts an impressive string of hits, including “That’s The Way (I Like It),” “Get Down Tonight” and “Shake Your Booty.”
Harry Wayne Casey “KC” began working in the music business at age 17 when he performed routine tasks around the T.K. Records/Studio complex in Miami. In 1973, The Sunshine Band originated and KC began writing songs with bassist Richard Finch.
KC & The Sunshine Band’s first record, “Blow Your Whistle,” made the top 15 on the Billboard R&B chart. In 1975, the group released its second album, “KC & The Sunshine Band,” which went triple platinum and featured the No. 1 hits “Get Down Tonight,” “That’s The Way (I Like It),” “Boogie Shoes” and “Rock Your Baby.” The band became the first act since the Beatles in 1964 to have four No. 1 pop singles in one 12-month period. Three of those singles also crossed over to become No. 1 R&B singles.
Released in 1976, the band’s third album “Part 3” also went triple platinum and featured the No. 1 singles “I’m Your Boogie Man,” “Shake Your Booty” and “Keep It Comin’ Love.” In the same year, KC won a songwriting Grammy for best R&B song for “Where Is The Love.” In 1978, he picked up two more Grammys, one for Album of the Year and the second for Producer of the Year.
KC received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002 when Dick Clark and music producer Michael Lloyd came out to honor him. The band’s music has been featured in more than 75 movies, including “Forest Gump,” “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Rush Hour.” KC & The Sunshine Band remains widely popular, playing more than 100 live shows yearly.
