Created in 2004, Dr. Rubin’s Mini-Medical School is a community service program for juniors and seniors, designed to encourage motivated high school students to become physicians and surgeons. The Mini Medical School for High School Students Program is a competitive program.
The program is 20 hours long divided into six Sunday afternoon sessions. The first five Sundays are scheduled from 1:30PM to 5PM Jan. 26, Feb. 2, Feb. 9, Feb. 23, and March 2, 2014 at the Edward Plainfield Outpatient Center located in Plainfield.
The last Sunday session will be from 2PM to 4PM on March 9 at Edward Hospital. Note that classes will not meet on February 16.
Parents are invited to the last session when students will be provided with a chance to review all the procedures learned along with their parents and hear a lecture on how to obtain admission to medical school as well as other health fields.
“We will conclude with our graduation ceremony,” said founder Ira S. Rubin,M.D., Ph.D., an attending pediatrician at Naperville Pediatric Associates.
Dr. Rubin suggests all interested students check their schedules before applying.
“Students must be able to attend all six sessions to fully benefit from this program,” he notes.
Admission to this program is competitive. There is no fee to apply. This program is appropriate for advanced sophomores, juniors and senior students. This year applications will be processed as they are received and qualified students will be offered an interview and a response on a rolling basis.
The deadline for all completed applications is October 15, 2013.
