In 2007, Sport Clips launched its Help A Hero campaign to raise money for Veterans of Foreign Wars’ National Military Services program, Operation Uplink, which provides free phone calls home for overseas service members.
The company has continued to expand its efforts each year since, with ever-growing success, generously donating more than $2 million to the program in total.
This year, Sport Clips is broadening its Help A Hero campaign in support of Veterans of Foreign Wars by raising funds to provide a new scholarship program for veterans who wish to further their education after military service.
This morning, members of the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 stopped by Sport Clips, located at 2936 Show Place Drive near 95th Street and Route 59, to make a presentation, honoring their efforts. The VFW Past National Commander George Cramer, Quartermaster Naperville VFW Phil Maughan, and current Commander Nina Petru honored the owners with a Certificate of Appreciation for their involvement that benefit veterans, grateful for their new scholarship, too.
Help a Hero Scholarship
The new program, known as the VFW’s “Sport Clips Help a Hero Scholarship,” will award up to $5,000 scholarships to qualifying veterans, and will ease the cost of further education and help veterans complete their educational goals without incurring excessive student loan debt.
Applications for the 2014 calendar year are currently being accepted. Scholarships will be awarded starting Jan. 1, 2014, and must be used by the end of the upcoming school year for which the veteran is applying. The award will be paid directly to the accredited schools.
According to the news release, Sport Clips is committed to continue serving veterans as they return from war and move on to the next chapter of their lives. The scholarship program is Sport Clips’ way of thanking our veterans for their dedicated service to our nation, and demonstrates the company’s dedication to service members, veterans and their families.
