It is an eerie phenomenon: At 7AM Friday morning, Jackson Avenue in downtown Naperville is silent. There is a feeling of emptiness, an absence of parked cars, a lack of traffic, nothing but a deserted street devoid of humanity. One almost expects to hear the Twilight Zone theme song playing in the midst. This is not an ordinary day in Naperville: soon the stillness will be interrupted by the arrival of trucks, trailers and vans, an invasion of sorts, as artists from around the country arrive in hordes to set up for the Naperville Art League’s Annual Riverwalk Fine Art Fair.
By Saturday morning, the street will be lined with white tents, each one filled with intriguing original work. From a 9-ft. horse sculpture made out of horseshoes to world class 14 k gold jewelry, from beautifully hand dyed silk jackets to dresses made out of barnwood and copper, a colorful explosion of creativity awaits thousands of art buyers and art appreciators who attend this highly anticipated festival.
The Riverwalk Fine Art Fair, Naperville Art League’s premier event and presented by Naperville Bank & Trust, is scheduled from 10AM-5PM on Sat. and Sun., Sept. 14 and 15, on Jackson Avenue between Main and Eagle and along the Riverwalk.
The show features 140 of the nation’s top artists as they showcase their fine art and fine craft. In addition, ,the Naperville Art League will be on site with an activity tent near the east entrance on Jackson and Main, and the DuPage Symphony as well as the Chicago Sinfonietta will perform in the amphitheater at the west end, giving attendees an opportunity to shop, interact or just relax and enjoy.
The Riverwalk Fine Art Fair is funded in part by the City of Naperville.
