Washington Street resurfacing begins September 9

-

On Monday, September 9, pending weather and unforeseen circumstances, the City of Naperville will begin work on the Washington Street Resurfacing Project. Work is expected to be complete in mid-October.

city of naperville squareConstruction will include the resurfacing and re-striping of Washington Street between Osler Drive and School Street as well as improvements to deteriorated curbs and sidewalks for the benefit of pedestrians. Prominent intersections along Washington at School, Jefferson, Hillside and Martin will also see improvements making them compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Washington Street will remain open while construction is taking place; however, the project will require daytime lane closures with flaggers to maintain a safe work environment. While the majority of work will be completed during daytime hours some off-hour work will take place as necessary. In addition, parking along Washington Street will be prohibited in the project work zone at all hours for the duration of the project to not only maintain a safe working area but to help keep traffic flowing north and south while any lane closures are in place. Signs will be provided along Washington Street to indicate no parking throughout the construction zone.

Once the resurfacing project is complete, motorists traveling through the downtown will encounter a smoother driving experience, similar to improvements that were made in 2012 along Washington Street from 5th Avenue to School Street. The overall aesthetics of the downtown will also be improved.
