I know that many of you are scratching your heads wondering who Tom Sharpe is. Well, simply put, he’s a guy you should know.
Tom Sharpe is a world class musician. Besides being the drummer for former Styx singer/keyboardist Dennis DeYoung and Grammy Award-winning group Mannheim Steamroller, Sharpe is the leader of his own group known as The Sharpe World Music Ensemble.
He holds a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree in Music from DePaul University, and has received all kinds of songwriting awards including World Music Song Of The Year in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. He’s made appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show, A&E, Nightline, PBS, and many others, but perhaps his most important appearances are those that he makes at our local schools.
Sharpe is a big believer in the arts, particularly for our young people, and spends much of his time supporting music in our schools. He has spent countless hours entertaining local students with his brand of “rockin‘ world music.” His high energy and modern approach to world music has left students inspired to learn more about sounds that they wouldn’t necessarily be exposed to, such as Middle Eastern and African music.
Sharpe makes another return to the Naperville area to play a benefit concert for Chicago Family Directions, an organization dedicated to guiding kids to successful careers.
The event will take place at 3PM on Oct. 20 at Grounds for Hope Café, 2701 Maple Ave., in Lisle.
Take the time to celebrate Tom Sharpe’s music and appreciate his dedication to our local communities.
