Joe Naper Statue Dedication / 4PM / Join the City of Naperville, Naper Settlement and Naperville Heritage Society at an event 182 years in the making when a statue of Naperville’s founder, Joseph Naper, is unveiled to the public at a dedication ceremony. Naperville Wine Festival Presented by Calamos Investments / 4-10PM / The annual Naperville Wine Festival will take place at CityGate Centre, on the Campus of Calamos Investments I88 and Rt. 59, August 23 and 24. Sample over 300 wines from around the world. Designated driver tickets are available. Tickets at the gate are $35 and includes a souvenir wine glass, 12 tastes and much more. Designated Driver Tickets are $10. There will also be many cooking and wine demonstrations by industry experts, as well as food from local restaurants. The Fest continues Saturday from 2-8PM. Naper Nights / 5 – 10PM / Enjoy music under the stars that features the best in local entertainment during the Naper Nights Community Concert Series, sponsored by Sikich. Bring your blanket and chairs to enjoy the “History of Rock” at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St. On Friday, Aug. 23 Michael McDermott and The Duke Street Kings perform Bruce Springsteen’s hits from the ’70s and ’80s with opening act The Gecko Club playing alternative rock from the ’90s.
Join us for the last concert of the series on Saturday, August 24 as Trippin Billies perform Dave Matthews’ hits. The opening act is The Mars Light, who will pay tribute to the early jam band pioneers including The Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers Band and Jefferson Airplane.
Doors open at 5PM. Friday night tickets are $10 adults, $5 children 4-12; Saturday night tickets are $15 adults, $10 children 4-12. Tickets are available online or at the gate. KBMF 2013 5K Walk & Run / 9AM / The Kathryn Bender Memorial Foundation presents the KBMF 2013 5K Walk / Run at Naperville North High School. Children’s Expo at Frontier Sports Complex / 9:30AM – 12:30PM / State Sen. Mike Connelly and State Rep. Darlene Senger will host their 2013 Children’s Expo at Frontier Sports Complex. In addition to representatives from Naperville, county and state public safety departments with many displays including “Touch a Truck,” dozens of local organizations such as 360 Youth Services, DuPage Children’s Museum, YMCA, Edward Hospital will provide health and fitness education. ‘Journey to Wisdom’ Cabaret for Women / Musical Review / 7:30PM / Doors open at 7PM for the performance of ‘Journey to Wisdom,’ a Cabaret for Women (and one man), to begin at 7:30PM Sun., Aug. 25, in the ICON Theatre at Community Christian Church. The musical review of song, dance and story explores the process, the challenges and blessings of growing older.
Ticket sales will support the Meals on Wheels program of the DuPage Senior Citizens Council, which delivers hot lunches, well-being checks and companionship to hundreds of home-bound seniors across the County. The program is part of the Cabarets for a Cause presented by Artful IMPACT!, an Illinois not for profit corporation based in Naperville.
