Since 1982, volunteer citizens have trained to serve for Naperville Community Radio Watch (CRW) to help supplement the police force as observers of suspicious or criminal activity. Additionally, CRW provides additional police department supervised security at special events such as Ribfest and Last Fling. They also volunteer during parades, triathlons and many other city activities to enhance public safety.

By its existence and uniformed presence, CRW aims to deter criminal activity and aff ords the city with a unique crime prevention resource.

Capturing their presence at the close of Ribfest 2013, PN was informed that CRW meets at 7:30PM on the first Thursday of each month in the Training Room at the Naperville Police Department, 1350 Aurora Ave.

For information, call the Naperville Police Department at (630) 305-5477 or www.naperville.il.us.

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
