“Extra Mile Day” is a day to remind us that every day, we have the choice of either complaining about our lives…or doing something about it. It is projected that this year, 400 mayors will show their support. I am hoping that you might catch the extra mile spirit and find interest in the story...and how it started. —Shawn Anderson, Founder, Extra Mile America
To Scott “Dr. Music” Itter: Thank you for writing such a sweet story about Olivia! We really love the drum stick and enjoyed meeting your family. Hope to see you again at a future show! —Melony Birt
To PN Editor: My family—and their friends—are enjoying the Internet version of Positively Naperville. Nichole, my daughter-in-law, added my article about Addy to her Facebook page. I’ll have to remember to take a picture of their reading PN the next time I’m in Arizona! Thanks for indulging me. We grandmothers are so proud to share our darling grandkids with whomever will take a look.

To PN Editor & Team: I am thrilled to share the final numbers of the 2013 Naperville Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk… We raised over $56,500 this year, and money keeps coming in daily which is a great surprise. This is over $8,000 than last year’s walk. We had over 300 participants in the walk this year.
Thank you so much for helping us promote the event! We sincerely appreciate the continued support. We are so blessed to have such a caring and generous community.
—Ann Zediker

To the PN Editor (Aug. 7, 2013): I hope all is well at Positively Naperville! I wanted to give you a heads up on a project I think will be of great interest to your readers. Yesterday afternoon, the City of Naperville in partnership with the Naperville Century Walk posted their first crowdfunding project to Citizinvestor – a crowdfunding platform for public projects.
The project is raising $27,000 to install “The Spirit of the American Navy” sculpture in Burlington Square Park. The City and Century Walk have each put up $25,000 towards this project, but they need the support of Naperville citizens to raise the rest of the funds necessary to install this beautiful sculpture honoring our veterans. Citizens can now donate tax-deductibly towards this project. No citizen’s credit card will be charged unless the project reaches 100% of its funding goal before the project deadline in 59 days.
As a Co-founder of Citizinvestor, I am happy to answer any questions you might have about this specific project or Citizinvestor in general.
—Jordan Raynor, Co-founder of Citizinvestor

To Naperville / Help Wanted for 2014 Memorial Day Parade in Lincoln Park, Michigan (Aug. 5, 2013): I am reaching out for some service to assist in any way possible from your organization. I have read some of the many fundraising events you have held.
Unfortunately, our fully-volunteered Parade Committee is struggling to get the proper fundraisers to raise the funds we need to be able to have a Memorial Day Parade in our city of Lincoln Park, MI. The parade is scheduled for 1:30PM May 18, 2014.
All our volunteers do not have any experience with this endeavor. I recently was appointed as co-chairperson. I have some administrative event planning from employee events in my past work career. However, our city is struggling and we are having a difficult time to recruit volunteers, help in fundraising and to correspond to get parade entries to make our volunteer Parade for 2014 successful. We do have support in the V.F.W. Post 552 and the L.P. American Legion for assistance in a memory ceremony.
Would you have any suggestions and/or leads to get in contact with entries who may wish to join us in our Parade in Lincoln Park, MI which is a city of 37,000 and a next door neighbor to the city of Detroit. Do you have a Parade Entry form to send out to potential parade entries?
My purpose is to ask if you may have suggestions and if you are able to point us in the right direction or if you know of any organization, who would be willing to become an entry to our Parade. Our parade stopped 6 years ago and we were able to revitalize it in 2013. We mostly had local group, baseball teams, some veteran’s who brought Legion Riders, one float.
We are hoping as we continue to make an effort to do a little better job and make this parade have more business sponsors, marching bands, service organizations, etc.
Thank you for your time.
—Lita Toney, C0-chairperson Lincoln Park 2014 Memorial Parade, ltoney@wowway.com
Editor’s Note: PN is happy to post this letter to the editor under “Greetings to PN” in hopes someone knows someone in Michigan who can assist. We will reach out to the chairmen of Naperville’s various parade committees to see if anyone has any ideas to get the Lincoln Park Memorial Day Parade back on the calendar to pay tribute to everyone who has served in the military and given the ultimate sacrifice for the United States of America. Cheers!
