At approximately 11:39AM, Naperville dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a small child face down in the pond at 95th St. and Cedar Glade. A water rescue response was immediately dispatched bringing 2 command vehicles, 2 ambulances, 2 engines, a truck, the water rescue vehicle and a boat, a total of 18 fire department personnel. Also dispatched were multiple Naperville police units.
The first police officer arrived on the scene in two minutes and took over CPR from the caller who had removed the child from the water. The first paramedics arrived two minutes later and took over patient care, moved the patient to the ambulance, and continued treatment as the patient was transported to Edward Hospital. The victim a 6 year old male child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital. The victim has been identified, but his name is not being released pending notification of family members.
An additional engine, ambulance and Chief Officer responded to the scene along with the Aurora Fire Department Dive Team to support divers from the Naperville Fire Department in completing an underwater search of the pond for additional victims. That search was completed at 1:30PM with no additional victims found. There were no injuries to any other members of the public or emergency workers.
The Naperville Fire Department wishes to acknowledge the assistance provided by the Naperville Police and Electric Departments and the Aurora Fire Department Dive Team on the scene of the incident. Additionally the Lisle Woodridge Fire Protection District provided station coverage during the incident.
The Fire Department would like to offer its condolences to the victim’s family as well as all those affected by this tragedy.
