Last week, libations were flowing as charity bartenders from Ribfest and Last Fling competed in the battle of the fests ‘Patio Shakedown’ while raising money for DuPage Pads at CityGate Grille.  DuPage Pads is a non-profit organization with a mission to end homelessness in DuPage County.

Last Fling (which is Labor Day Weekend in downtown Naperville, August 30 thru September 2) was represented by Bill Eagan and Chad Pedigo.  Ribfest was represented by Bruce Erickson and recent Ribfest Chairman Marty Walker.

Frank E. Fling, the Last Fling mascot, made a spirited appearance helping to bring the Jaycees to victory.

Bill Eagan, Chairman of the Jaycees 2013 Last Fling, had fun on the CityGate Grille patio and added some serious thought to the responsibility. “When I was a kid people were doing things like this to help me,” Eagan said. “And now I can attempt to pay it back.”

Bruce Erickson, often referred to as the “Godfather of Ribfest” for his involvement with the Exchange Club’s signature event since its inception in 1988, kept his reason for agreeing to be a charity bartender brief. “Ray Kinney asked me and nobody says no to Ray.”

“This event like many in Naperville make giving back to the community a social and interactive opportunity to have fun with friends while feeling good about the causes we are supporting,” said Chad Pedigo of the Jaycees.

The Exchange Club of Naperville and the Naperville Jaycee’s are both “Class act’s” and regardless who raised more money, all funds raised will go to a great cause, organizers said.

The Jaycees and Exchange Club are responsible for Naperville’s two largest annual festivals, Last Fling and Ribfest, and are constantly raising funds for local charities.

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
