Naperville teen selected as ‘Bank of America Student Leader’

-

Colin Pinto, a Naperville resident and rising senior at Neuqua Valley High School, recently was selected along with four other Chicago area teens to be part of Bank of America’s 2013 Student Leaders program this summer.

Colin PintoPassionate about education equality, tutoring and helping others struggling with financial hardship, Pinto founded Students United Tutoring Group where he also serves as president.

Pinto’s organization provides more than 60 students in his district with free and convenient tutoring, connecting volunteer high school tutors (currently, he’s organized 16 high school student volunteers) with students of all ages, and he hopes to expand the offering to other districts in the future. Pinto is proud that his organization offers students, no matter their financial situation, the ability to seek help outside of the classroom.

As part of the Bank of America Student Leaders program, each student receives a paid eight-week internship. Pinto is interning at the Northern Illinois Food Bank. The internships provide students with valuable work experience while also supporting the nonprofits with extra help this summer.

Pinto just returned from Washington, D.C. where he participated in the Bank of America Student Leadership Summit.

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
