Volunteer – Steve Essig
Organization – DuPagePads
The Solution to End Homelessness.
Steve Essig has been volunteering at DuPagePads for 20 years. He served as an agency board member for six years; volunteers monthly through the Rotary Club of Naperville/Sunrise at one of the DuPagePads’ overnight sites; and participates on the DuPagePads’ Run/Walk Committee.
A Naperville resident for 31 years and owner of Essig Printing, Steve has always been an active community member. Steve believes, “Homelessness is a community issue and it takes everyone working together to make a difference. Many people deserve recognition for their contributions to DuPagePads and I’m proud to be involved in their mission.”
Steve has been an outstanding volunteer. Seeing the need for his club to volunteer monthly at an overnight site, he was instrumental in recruiting members of the Rotary Club of Naperville / Sunrise.
One of Steve’s volunteer tasks over the years has been laundry service. In the past, Steve would bring towels home to be washed. Now he takes responsibility of delivering the linens to Edward Hospital to be sanitized. This spring, Steve drove through a storm to ensure DuPagePads’ clients had clean linens, all while his own basement was flooding!
An avid runner, Steve brought his expertise to DuPagePads nine years ago to initiate the agency’s run/walk. “It’s hard to believe that we are already hosting the 9th Annual ‘Run 4 Home, ’on Sat., Sept. 7,” he shares, “This event fuels the mind, body and soul to respond to a call for action to end homelessness right here in our community!”
