Things to do around Naperville 4th of July weekend

2011Ribfest_2-017Ribfest at Knoch Park / noon to 10PM / All tickets are available online or at the gate (as long as they are available). Each ticket allows access to the park and the concert. If the event sells out in advance, there will not be tickets available at the gate (there will not be tickets available at Jewel). Gate prices are $15, online ticket prices are $12 and children 11 and under are free everyday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.etix.com.

The current schedule of bands include Casey James and Love & Theft on July 4 with Fireworks at dusk, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators on July 5, Rick Springfield on July 6 and Lynyrd Skynyrd on July 7. Most headlining acts go on stage at 8PM, subject to weather, and are subject to change without notice.

Naperville Municipal Band Concert / 7PM / “From Glenn Miller to Sousa” – Bring a picnic to the park for this special Independence Day concert at Central Park, 104 East Benton Ave. in downtown Naperville.  Watch the fireworks from downtown Naperville from the top of the parking deck after the concert! Ice Cream Social during the concert, too.

Fireworks at Ribfest / 9:30PM / As is tradition, the Exchange Club of Naperville, City of Naperville and the Naperville Park District have teamed up to present the annual Independence Day Fireworks, a spectacular display that bursts into the sky just after dusk at 9:30PM, in conjunction with Ribfest. Free public admission to Ribfest will begin at 7:30PM, Thurs., July 4, in Knoch Park, in plenty of time for a barbecue dinner and music on the Main Stage before the fireworks begin. The 30-minute show of fireworks, well known throughout the Chicagoland area, again will be simulcast with patriotic music and broadcasted on FM 95.9 The River. Note that the rain date for the fireworks is at 9:30PM on Sat., July 7.

‘Jesus Christ, Superstar’ at Pfeiffer Hall / 7:30PM Fri, July 5 & Sat., July 6 / 2PM Sun., July 7 / All performances at North Central Colleges’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave., Naperville. OMT to play Ribfest main stage / 5PM / Naperville’s own OMT will perform on the Ribfest Main Stage at 5PM.

Saturday

Casey’s Fires up the Grill / 10AM – 2PM / Casey’s Foods fires up its grill every Saturday and Sunday through October at Naperville Plaza, Gartner and Washington. Purchase reliable stand-bys — burgers, brats, steak and chicken tacos, etc. — and enjoy grilled specials every weekend throughout the summer and fall. Picnic tables provide seating under cover, too.

German Language Church Service / 11:30AM / Church services in the German language will be led by Prof. Dr. Klaus-Peter Adam at St. John United Church of Christ 1190 Olesen Dr. All are welcome to attend. Services are held at 11:30AM on the first Sunday of each month and will continue on August 4 and September 1. For more information call (630) 355-5208.

Settlement Sundays / 1 – 4PM / On Sundays beginning June 16, Father’s Day, through Aug. 25 (excluding July 14), admission includes do-it-yourself ice cream sundaes and a variety of family-friendly activities for all ages at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville. Hours are 1-4PM; regular admission is $12 adult, $10 senior (62+), $8 youth (4-12). Naperville residents and members are free.
