Washington St. Watermain Improvement Project begins July 8

-

Work anticipated to last through September

city of naperville squareOn Monday, July 8, pending weather and unforeseen circumstances, the City of Naperville will begin construction on the Washington St. Watermain Improvement Project. The watermain installation and associated work will be conducted in phases in several areas along Washington Street, with construction anticipated to last through September.

Construction will take place in the following locations:

  • Hillside Ave. from Main St. to the east side of Washington St.
  • Washington St. just south of Martin Ave.
  • Washington St. just west of Fredenhagen Park, at 420 S. Washington St. and Osler Dr.

The work is part of the Water Department’s long-term capital improvement plan to enhance the water distribution system’s performance and reliability in Naperville’s downtown area.

Washington St. traffic will be impacted as a result of lane reductions that will occur intermittently between the hours of 9AM to 3PM. In addition, intermittent night-time lane closures on Washington will take place throughout the project. These closures will be limited to Sunday through Thursday between 11PM and 5AM.

Traffic on Hillside Ave. will remain two-way throughout construction; lanes will be shifted to the south side of the roadway. Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be detoured around the area. Driveways located in the construction area will be blocked at times; residents and businesses will be notified ahead of time and disruptions made as brief as possible. Residences in the immediate vicinity of construction will experience short periods of water service disruption while new water services are being connected. These residents will be notified in advance of this work. Motorists and residents in the area should expect heavy equipment, trucking, noise and dust throughout the project’s duration.

All construction is weather dependent and schedules are subject to change.
