Kids Corner – Gaelic times at Quigley’s

-

Summertime in Naperville offers so many great places to eat outside and enjoy the sunshine.

quigleys pubThis month I choose Quigley’s Irish Pub, located at 43 E. Jefferson Street. The pub resides in the historic Jefferson Hill building, which was built in 1845.

To ensure the atmosphere, they had the pub designed, built and shipped from Ireland. The pub is “Craic,” which is a Gaelic term that describes the feeling you get in an Irish Pub – fun, good conversation, good music and food and great people. For my mom and me, that was our experience from the moment we got seated until the moment we left. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel like you are part of their Irish family.

For an appetizer I choose the Corned Beef Bites. These are open-faced corned beef served on light rye topped with melted Swiss cheese and served with brown mustard. The taste combination was perfect. The corned beef was full of flavor!

For my main course I choose the Beer Battered Fish & Chips. What an amazing breading! The fish is white and flakey and mouthwatering delicious. The fish comes served on a bed of Irish chips and a side of coleslaw. We ordered the double meal and there was plenty for my mom and me to share—with leftovers to even take home. I noticed several large portions coming out to the tables.

For dessert we choose the only one they had … the Irish Cream Bash Pie. After tasting this pie I know why it is the only thing listed …. It is so good you do not want anything else—white and dark Irish crème pie served on a chocolate crumb crust. The richness lasted me through each and every bite.

I would highly suggest taking a stroll up Jefferson with your dog (pet-friendly patio). Stop in for some authentic Irish food and atmosphere, and may the road rise to meet you along the way. Oh, and tell them Jack sent you!
