From June 20 to June 23, the 87th Annual Lincolnland Convention was held at the Holiday Inn in Gurnee.
At this convention, I had the honor of being sworn in as president of the Lincolnland District. This is an extreme privilege for me and I am extremely thankful to the members of Exchange who have confidence in me to be their president.
Also, at the convention, National Exchange Club President Lou Molitor was honored for being a member of the Waukegan Exchange Club. It is not very often that a member of an Illinois Club becomes a National President. This distinction truly was something to celebrate.
Looking back, I also recall a distinct honor in 1987 when another former National President from Illinois, Harold Warren, founded the Exchange Club of Naperville.
Going forward, one of my first duties as District President will be to represent Lincolnland at the National Convention, held this year July 10-14, 2013, in Greensboro, NC. At that meeting, Don Wright from Murfreesboro, TN, will take the lead as the National President and I will be part of his Krewe.
As many of you know, a Krewe is a group of people who work on the parade for Mardi Gras. Don’s year will conclude in New Orleans, so it was only fitting that his group of District Presidents would be the Krewe “Parading the Spirit of Exchange.”
With the District Convention, 2013 Ribfest and the upcoming National Convention, I’ve kept extremely busy during this exciting time for me. I am thrilled to take part in all of these wonderful, rewarding events.
Please remember you are always welcome to join us for a luncheon meeting on the first and third Fridays at noon at Hugo’s Frog Pond. We welcome your interest in our club as we’re always seeking new members who embrace our mission.
